UNS N08367 is a highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel with high chromium and molybdenum content, which provides excellent corrosion resistance in harsh environments such as high-temperature seawater and flue gas desulfurization equipment. Depending on the environment, it is a highly economical stainless steel with corrosion resistance comparable to nickel alloys and pure titanium. Nippon Yakin offers its products in plate, sheet and strip form.
Processability
Cold workability and hot workability are approximately equal to Type 304, Type 316 and other standard austenitic stainless steels. However, care is required with both cold and hot-worked materials due to their high strength.
Weldability
Possible welding methods include shielded metal arc welding, TIG welding and plasma welding in the same manner as for standard austenitic stainless steels. As welding material, alloy 276 should be used. Preheating and post-weld heat treatment are not required.
Machinability
As a distinctive feature of high-nickel stainless steel, its machinability is more difficult than that of austenitic stainless steel, but easier than that of nickel-based alloys. It is recommended to use superhard tools whenever possible, along with slower feed rates and larger depths of cut.
heat treatment
Since NAS 254NM is an austenitic stainless steel, the heat treatment also meets the requirements of standard austenitic stainless steel. The heat treatment conditions usually used for this material are as follows:
- Solid solution heat treatment: 1125~1175℃; water cooling
pickling
A mixture of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid is used for pickling. However, due to the high corrosion resistance of NAS 254NM, the scale removal is somewhat difficult compared to type 304. Therefore, the material should be immersed in an alkaline solution before pickling, or if possible, shot blasting is very effective.

- High-concentration chloride ion environment: flue gas desulfurization system, pulp and paper industry, various bleaching equipment, etc.
- High concentration salt environment: resin manufacturing equipment, chemical reactors, pipelines, etc.
