Product Description
Sodium thiocyanate
Sodium thiocyanate is white orthorhombic crystal or powder. It is easy to deliquescence in the air, and produces toxic gas when it encounters acid. Soluble in water, ethanol, acetone and other solvents. The aqueous solution is neutral, and forms blood-colored ferric thiocyanate with ferric salt. It does not react with ferrous salts. And concentrated sulfuric acid to produce yellow sodium bisulfate. React with cobalt salts to produce dark blue cobalt thiocyanate. It reacts with copper salt to form white silver thiocyanate precipitate or black copper thiocyanate precipitate.

In organic synthesis, it is used to convert halogenated hydrocarbons into corresponding thiocyanates. 3. Sodium thiocyanate is converted into isothiocyanate (S=C=NH) in the presence of acid. After in-situ generation, it can react with amines to generate corresponding thiourea derivatives. [3] 4.
