Used primarily in the United States, Jet A must have a freezing point of -40ºC or lower and generally does not contain static dissipative additives. Jet A-1 must have a freezing point of -47ºC or lower, and for regions outside the US, this fuel often contains static dissipative additives. There are other major differences between US and European/Africa/Middle East/Australasian manufacturing specifications.
Jet A and Jet A-1 are kerosene-based fuels. The main difference between the two is the freezing point, the temperature at which wax crystals disappear in laboratory tests.
Aviation jet fuel is an aviation fuel designed for use in aircraft powered by gas turbine engines. Appearance is colorless to straw colored. The most commonly used fuels for commercial aviation are Jet A and Jet A1, which are produced to standardized international specifications. Another jet fuel commonly used in civil turbine engine powered aviation is Jet B, which has enhanced cold weather performance.
