Austenitic:
Austenitic steels have austenite as the main phase (face-centered cubic crystals). These are alloys containing chromium and nickel (sometimes manganese and nitrogen) that are structured around 302 type iron, 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Austenitic steels cannot be hardened by heat treatment. The most familiar stainless steel is probably Type 304, sometimes called T304 or simply 304. Type 304 Surgical Stainless Steel is an austenitic steel containing 18-20% chromium and 8-10% nickel.

ferrite:
Ferritic steels have ferrite (body-centered cubic crystal) as the main phase. These steels contain iron and chromium, based on the 17% chromium content of type 430. Ferritic steels are less ductile than austenitic steels and cannot be hardened by heat treatment.

Martensite:
Around 1890, the German microscopist Adolf Martens first observed the typical orthorhombic martensitic microstructure. Martensitic steel is a low carbon steel consisting of type 410 iron, 12% chromium and 0.12% carbon. They may be tempered and hardened. Martensite gives the steel great hardness, but it also reduces the steel's toughness and makes it brittle, so few steels are fully hardened.

There are other grades of stainless steel such as precipitation hardening stainless steel, duplex stainless steel and cast stainless steel. Stainless steel can be made in a variety of finishes and textures, and can be tinted in a variety of colors.

ground, ship and air

ground:

Ground or "surface" transportation can be by train or truck. Ground transportation is often more affordable than air freight but more expensive than sea freight, especially in developing countries such as India, where inland infrastructure is not efficient.

Moving goods by truck directly from the shipper's place to their destination is known as door-to-door shipping, or more formally, intermodal. Trucks and trains deliver goods to seaports and airports for bulk cargo.

Boat:

Much of the transport is done by actual ships. On rivers and canals, barges are often used to move bulk cargo.

Air:

Cargo is transported by air in the luggage compartment of dedicated cargo and passenger aircraft. Air freight is usually the fastest method of long-distance freight, but it is also the most expensive.
