Product Details
Bacardi Premium Rum originated in 1862, created by Don Facundo, the first rum created by Bacardi and is now the most popular rum in the world. When the distillery first opened, a swarm of fruit bats was found in the rafters, and it has graced every bottle of Bacardi rum since. It is a white rum that is at the heart of many of today's well-known and loved cocktails, such as the original mojito and daiquiri.
Bacardi Superior rum was popular because the only rum available was rough and not aimed at the gentleman of the day. To create his premium rum, Don Facundo had to find the highest quality ingredients, including a unique strain of yeast he found in sugar cane fields outside of Santiago de Cuba. This proprietary yeast strain is called "LA Levadura Bacardi" and continues to be used today to provide the unique flavor found in Bacardi rums.
Don Facundo also distills two different spirits to make his light and balanced rum. Aguardiente was the first, a delicate rum with a unique flavor and aroma that provided Bacardi's backbone, and the second was a spirit called redestilado, which he distilled several times to produce a more A lighter, more delicate spirit.
He also incorporates the mellow aroma of charcoal into his rum creations, which are purposefully aged. These are all techniques passed down through the Bacardi family and still in use today.
