Our Red King Crab is the largest of the Alaskan crabs. While the average size varies from year to year, it's around 6.5 lbs. Most red king crab is caught in the Bering Sea/Bristol Bay area. The fishing season starts on October 15th and runs until the catch quota is reached, usually towards the end of November. Norton Bay Red King Crab is a smaller red king crab with an average weight of about 2.7 pounds. It was caught off Nome and Unalaklet, Alaska. This is the only summer red king crab fishery that is open from June 15th to July 1st and closes at the end of August.

When cooked, our Blue King Crab is often mistaken for Red King Crab despite its smaller size. They are easily recognized by the disproportionately large right paw. Before cooking, they take on a beautiful almost metallic blue/gold color. Average size is between 4.5 - 5 lbs. The blue king crab fishery has been closed for a decade while the Alaska Department of Fish and Game monitors the population. It reopened in 2009. The crabs were caught in the Northern Bering Sea off St. Matthew Island. Fishing season coincides with the Bristol Bay red king crab fishery - October 15th to late November.

Brown (aka Golden) King Crab

Brown king crabs range in size from about 5 pounds. 6 - 7 lbs in the Aleutian Islands. in southeastern Alaska. Their legs are more "tubular" in cross-section and "thornier" than red king crabs. Brown king crab is fished in two regions: the Aleutian Islands and southeastern Alaska. The season begins with fishing in the Southeast on February 15th and in the Aleutians on August 15th. Depending on fishing effort, the fishery lasts from one to three months.
