Electrolytic nickel plating is a process that involves the deposition of pure nickel using an electrolyte solution, a conductive substrate and an external electrical current. Components with different metal compositions are thoroughly cleaned and immersed in an electrolytic bath that acts as a cathode. The nickel anode, which is continuously in the bath, is supplied with an electric charge, which then releases nickel ions which pass through the bath and attach to the surface of the cathode.

Nickel plating can be applied to most metal substrates, but is most commonly applied to pre-plated copper surfaces, including metals and plastics. When it comes to car and motorcycle restoration, the parts are usually steel (which benefits greatly from the triple chrome plating process due to the benefits of wear and corrosion protection.
