Product Description

Expanded perlite for low temperature insulation

Locally produced expanded perlite is an extremely light-weight, white powdery material composed of tiny airtight air bubbles made of perlite (vitreous igneous sand) crushed to a certain particle size and rapidly heated to expand.
Expanded perlite comes from volcanic lava. It is an amorphous glassy volcano with crystal water inside. Due to its low density and low thermal conductivity, expanded perlite is widely used in construction and manufacturing, in lightweight plasters and mortars, insulation, ceilings and filter aids. In gardening, it makes the compost more open while having good water retention. It is a good carrier for soilless plants. In recent years, expanded perlite has become increasingly popular for low temperature applications.

application

Expanded perlite for low temperature insulation

1. Construction application:
Because of its outstanding insulating properties and light weight, perlite is widely used as loose-fill insulation in masonry construction. In this application, free-flowing perlite loose-fill masonry insulation is poured into the cavity of the concrete block, completely filling all cores, crevices, mortar areas and ear holes.

In addition to providing thermal insulation, perlite improves fire rating, reduces noise transmission, and it is rot, pest and termite resistant. Perlite is also ideal for insulating cryogenic and cryogenic containers.

When perlite is used as an aggregate concrete; producing a lightweight, fire-resistant, insulating concrete ideal for roof decking and other applications. Perlite is also used as an aggregate in Portland cement and gypsum plaster for exterior applications and fire protection of beams and columns.

Other architectural applications include underfloor insulation, chimney liners, paint textures, drywall, ceiling tiles and roof insulation.
2. Horticultural application:
In horticultural applications, perlite is used worldwide as an ingredient in soilless cultivation mixes, which provide ventilation and optimal water retention for plant growth. For rooting cuttings, use 100% perlite. Studies have shown that perlite hydroponic systems can achieve excellent yields.

Other benefits of horticultural perlite are its neutral pH and the fact that it is sterile and weed-free. Plus, it's lightweight, making it ideal for container growing. Other horticultural applications for perlite are as a carrier for fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides and for stacking seeds.

Horticultural perlite is as useful to home gardeners as it is to commercial growers. It is equally successful in greenhouse plantings, landscaping applications, and home indoor plants.

3. Industrial application:
Industrial applications of perlite are the most diverse, ranging from high-performance fillers for plastics to cements for petroleum, water and geothermal wells.

Other applications include use as filter media for pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals and municipal systems and swimming pool water. Other applications include use as an abrasive in soaps, cleaners and polishes, and various foundry applications that take advantage of perlite's insulating properties and high heat resistance.

The same heat-resistant properties are exploited when perlite is used to make refractory bricks, mortar and pipe insulation.
