Nori is commonly used as a wrapper for sushi and rice balls. It is also a garnish or condiment in noodle preparations and soups. It is usually roasted before eating (yaki-nori). A common by-product is roasted seasoned nori (ajitsuke-nori), in which a seasoning mixture (variable, but usually soy sauce, sugar, sake, mirin, and seasonings) is used in conjunction with the roasting process. It can also be eaten in the form of a soy sauce-flavored paste called "seaweed Tsukudani".
