Ligninase laccase

Laccase (EC 1.10.3.2) is a copper-containing oxidase found in many plants, fungi and microorganisms.

Laccase has been examined as a cathode in enzymatic biofuel cells. They can be paired with electron mediators to facilitate electron transfer to solid electrode wires. Laccase is one of the few oxidoreductases commercialized as an industrial catalyst. These enzymes are used in textile dyeing/textile finishing, wine cork manufacturing, tooth whitening, and many other industrial, environmental, diagnostic and synthetic uses. Laccase can be used in bioremediation. Protein-ligand docking can be used to predict putative contaminants that can be degraded by laccases.
